What is the 3:1:1 rule on British Airways?

Liquids, gels or even pastes ring the alarm bells for security personnel. They look at them suspiciously and that is why airlines including British Airways have specific guidelines on how they must be handled.   • All the containers must be kept in a resealable, transparent plastic bag - The plastic bag must be 20cm x 20cm in size.
  • Each container can have up to 3.4 ounces or 100 ml of liquid - The amount will be screened even if the containers are company-sealed.
  • Gels, pastes, aerosols are also considered liquid items - Deodorants, lotions, toothpaste, mascara & shampoo will be screened.

What is not allowed in hand baggage with British Airways?

  • Items covered by 3-1-1 rule - Liquids, aerosols, gels or pastes must be kept in containers with the amount not exceeding 3.4 ounces.
  • Vapes or e-cigarettes - While using vape or e-cigarette is not allowed, you may carry it in hand baggage if they are packed safely.
  • Powdered goods - Up to 350 gm or 12 oz. of cosmetics, spices, powdered milk, flour, sugar and coffee may be kept in hand baggage if your flight is US-bound.

Can you take liquor on board with British Airways?

What is the 24-hour rule for British Airways?

  • Airport connection time exceeding 24 hours - Under British Airways liquid policy, you may not be allowed to carry on board the liquid items purchased at airport.
  • Checked liquid items not reaching to the destination with you - British Airways will try to return the item within 24 hours.
